Researchers found that compared with taking only 4,000 steps per day, taking 8,000 steps per day was associated with a 51% lower risk of death from all causes, while taking 12,000 steps per day was associated with a 65% lower risk. The team, which included investigators from the U.S. National Cancer Institute, the U.S. National Institute on Aging, and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), found that it was the number of steps taken that mattered the most, not the step intensity.
